Slow performance when streaming
I have several applications that are noticably slower when streaming from a CIFS fileshare. If I copy the Thinapp files locally it runs much faster. The performance of the CIFS share is pretty good, being able to copy down large thinapp files at a rate of around 280MB/sec. The application I am looking at currently is around 270MB in size.
What could be causing this, or how can I troubleshoot it?

By far the most common reason is antivirus on access scanning. Please exclude the network share from being scanned by your clients. The share should be read and execute only and the file server can perform antivirus scanning instead so it should be safe.

I tried disabling AV completely after your answer, but the application is still slow. Is there anything else I can look at?

Is it specific to CIFS. (It shouldn't be; I guess).
Ideally the second launch should be faster if the reason is due to network. As in second case, some of the data will already be cached by system cache manager. Is this is what you are observing?
