Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2007 SP2 ThinApp problem
Hello,
We are trying to ThinApp "Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2007 SP2". We ThinApp on a clean Windows XP SP3 workstation, there is no Office 2007 installed.
During the ThinApp we start nearly all functions in Visio, such as the help, "insert-->object", etc.
When we test the ThinApp, most functions work, but when we try the option "insert-->object", we got a error message not enough memory.
Another problem is when we want to use this Visio ThinApp and we want to use Visio objects in our installed Word 2007, it doesn't work, because Word 2007 doesn't know that the ThinApped Visio 2007 exists.
We tested it on a Windows XP SP3 workstation with Office 2007 SP2 installed.
Does anybody know a solution for our two problems? And has anybody ThinApped Visio 2007 successful?
Kind regards,
Pieter Heijms

Hi Pieter
We have been trying the same for a while now and always get an error message when we try to insert a visio object into word using office 2007.
The only way we have got it to work so far is by thinapp'ing the whole of office 2007 and using 'merged' as the overall isolation mode. However for undisclosable reasons we require this same functionality in writecopy
we are working on a number of different tests and have now raised a ticket. I shall post back to you if we get any further

You are not alone in this. The use case that we tested is a little different. We tried to insert an excel file into powerpoint. All components of Office are virtual. I opened a SR and was told that the error is caused because thinAPP doesn't support OLE. The support engineer also indicated that VmWare does not have any plans to support OLE in the near future.

Old thread, I know, but here's an update from page 49 of the ThinApp 4.6.1 manual (it may not specifically address your issue, but OLE is supported in some circumstances):
Using Captured Applications with Other System Components
Captured applications can interact with other components installed on the desktop.
Performing Paste Operations
Review the following paste operations and limitations with ThinApp:
- Pasting content from system installed applications to captured applications – This paste operation is unlimited. The virtual application can receive any standard clipboard formats, such as text, graphics, and HTML. The virtual application can receive OLE objects.
- Pasting from captured applications to system applications – ThinApp converts OLE objects created in virtual applications to system native objects when you paste them into native applications.
