Edge Serial number for Activation

Good day,

This is a simple question but one of the things bypassed (as usual) by VMware/VeloCloud: Where can I find the serial number?

At our DC, we received two Edge 620n units. The box has the following strings on it:

  1. A string starting with TW-0GXYDH-xxxxx-xxx-xxxx. The boxes differed only in the last four digits
  2. A service Tag composed of 7 non-hex digits (numbers and letters)
  3. An express service code
  4. A MAC address
  5. A part number and revision number (in this case EDGE620-N and REV:A01)
  6. A DP/N (whatever this is) composed of the second component of the first string (0GXYDH)

Is the Serial number written on the Edge itself (on its belly)?

According to the documentation, it should start with VC followed by some characters.

Am I missing something here? Isn't it true that the last three digits of the S/N are used in identifying the initial WiFi SSID? (I know we have the non-WiFi version)

Best regards,

Talal

Hi,

The serial number is the same as the service tag.
The Service Tag is found on the VMware SD-WAN Edge.

You can find the serial number of the VMware SD-WAN Edge you have already activated in Orchestrator.

The hardware models like 6X0 or 3X00 are manufactured by Dell. So it would not be mandatory to have the serial number start with VC.

If the hardware is manufactured by Velocloud Networks, we expect to see the serial number starting with "VC"

I have seen the WiFi models(Velocloud Networks manufactured) that have not been activated yet broadcast the WiFi SSID velocloud-123 where 123 are the last three digits of the serial. For Dell manufactured, I have seen the devices broadcast just the serial number(7-digit).

Hope this helps.
