Unable to upload ESXi ISO
I've built a new vCenter 6.0/Update Manager setup.
I'm trying to upload my first ESXi image (ESX 5.5 Update 3a) But it errors after uploading saying:
"Failed to import data"
Google points me to KB 2097168 which says to make sure update manager is as new as the image you're uploading. Well, in this case, it is!
Suggestions?

What is the name of the file you're trying to import? Is it a VMware ISO or is it a Dell/HP Customized ISO?

VMware-VMvisor-Installer-5.5.0.update03-3116895.x86_64.iso
It's a generic/real VMWare ISO, not a vendor one.

Check hash on the 5.5U3 ISO you have.. Hash should match the below hash value, if not, ISO is corrupted.
MD5SUM: 8c1a036e5cfb6401bef600c856c04153
SHA1SUM: fc423cf2894ce84416782ff492f3bd486880e953

You could not import a 5.5 ISO, since Update Manager support host upgrade only to the same version of the Update Manager and since your Update Manager is version 6.0, you could only import ISO from version 6.0 and not version 5.5 that is a old version.
With Update Manager 6.0 you can upgrade hosts that are running ESXi 5.x to ESXi 6.0. Host upgrades to ESXi 5.0, ESXi 5.1 or ESXi 5.5 are not supported.

My MD5 & SHA match those on the VMWare website.
(You showed the 5.5 Update 3 checksums, Update 3a is available...)

WTF?!? So for each version of ESXi, I need a separate setup of vCenter & Update Manager????
Backwards compatibility? Yeah, we've heard of it...

Just came across this thread as I have been trying to do the same thing
we are on 6.0 U1a vCenter and have Prouction on 6.0u1a (plus CBT fix)
however all our dev is on holder hardware on 5.0 and I want to move this to 5.5 (6.0 is not supported int he HCL)
are we saying I have to do this manually?! I don't know what to say to that!

Import ISO (vSphere 7.0u2) to Update Manager (vSphere 6.7u3) is Ok.
