Is it is contemporary linux version of VMware vcenter windows version with Sql express?
When can we use this? why not to opt windows VMware Vcenter licensed version if this is available for free? (upto max 5 Hosts and 50 VM's for how long we can use this in our environment)

Same licenses apply for vCenter appliance as windows vCenter. However you can use in evaluation mode for 60 days. Yes, you can save your spending for windows licenses.

Yes, its equivalent of windows VC with some differences : Refer: http://www.vmwarearena.com/2014/02/difference-between-vcenter-server.html

Thank you, but I cannot find any name specific to Vcenter appliance and license cost mentioned against its name. I need to justify to someone who believes in evidence. Could you please send me a link in which the differences in Vcenter (windows) and Vcenter apppliance (linux) license prices are compared or given? Many Thanks
I appreciate your help.

I believe there is no difference between vCenter licenses across windows & appliance.
You will get vCenter license (as whole) and now its your choice to deploy vCenter either on windows or deploy the same as appliance. Once deployed you need to apply the license.
If you go for vCenter foundation, you will get same set of features either you deploy the VC on windows or as appliance. Same applies to vCenter standard license. If you deploy on windows, you need windows license as well.
