Internal error message

Hello,

I try to convert a standalone vm (windows 2000) with the importer. The Importer is installed in a windows xp session.

My way to this was:

\- Select: Import a standalone virtual machine

\- browsing to the location on a networkpath and select the *.vmx

\- Pressing the OK button and....

The Importer do everything and a dialog shows the error message:

AN INTERNAL ERROR HAS OCCURRED

(sysimage.fault.UnableToDetermineGuestOs). Please contact VMware

for support or additional information.[/b]

I'm try install the importer on a different (physical) computer and a other VM but it doesn't work and the same error messages shows.

Do you now the problem?

Best Regards

Patrick

Hi Patrick,

What is the format of the source virtual machine(Workstation/GSX/Server/Microsoft VirtualPC)? Was it located on a network share? Can you post the import log (click on "Show Log" from the failure page) here?

Thanks,

-Alvin

Hi Alvin,

I think I found the problem. It was a templatebased virtual machine and the importer was unable to find the path to the storage directory. Now the first step is working (I think so Smiley Happy but the export to my esx server doesn't work a "normal" export to a new virtual machine (4.x, 5.x etc.) works fine.

If I try to connect my esx or gsx server - no way - the connection don't accept. Normal connection with the remote console to the same esx or gsx server with the same user on the same computer works fine.

I search the docu for this.......
