The IP address used for management of your ESXi host is not at all tied to the IPs for your VM. If you're on a single subnet, you'll need a unique IP for ESXi to manage it and then unique IPs for each of your VMs. The vSwitch that ESXi creates is simple a basic switch and there are no IP services associated with it (i.e. DHCP, NAT, etc). The good thing about this is that you can put a NIC from ESXi into your DMZ, but ESXi itself will not require an IP address in the DMZ subnet. Only your VMs will have an IP in the DMZ subnet.
