VSphere replication to another datastore

Hi,

I was wondering if vSphere 5.1 replication can replicate to another datastore within the same site?  I have a slightly older iSCSI target that is not being used anymore and was wondering if it is possible to use replication to replicate to this device on a daily basis in case my main SAN has issues.  We don't have any remote sites...this is all in the same office.  Everything I have read seems to indicate that replication will only work to another vCenter install at another site.  Can anyone shed some light on this?  Thanks!!

Hi Chris,

Standalone vSphere Replication accessible through the vSphere Web Client can replicate within the same VC between different data stores, YES.

In case you use it through the SRM UI - it is not possible.

Ok...so either way I would still need to install the replication appliance within vCenter...correct?  And then access the replication options from the Web Client afterwards?  BTW...sorry for my ignorance but what is SRM?
