Gen 1 vs. Gen 2 isn't a hardware difference, it's the firmware (6.x vs 7.x). At one point a couple years back they decided that the firmware they created was too buggy to fix and they scrapped it and started over. All devices purchased in the last two years should have been shipped with the Gen 2 firmware and if you have an older one it is easily (though slowly) upgraded.
My system is running 07.35.22.61 and it works fine.
EDIT: Have you verified that the iSCSI initiator name hasn't changed during the upgrade? Remember, the Dell array determines what LUNs to show you by how the client identifies itself.
