Hello,

I think you are mixing two different features in resource allocation tab.

The CPU and Memory Reservations are meant to reserve some resources for the specific virtual machine (aka this resources are reserved for this virtual machine when it is powered on, and they will not be shared with the other virtual machines regardless if the VM actually uses them or not)

The checkbox "unlimited" is for the limits of the virtual machine.

For example if you gave a VM 4096 MB of memory but you don't want the virtual machine to use more than 3000 MB of RAM you can set a limit for the memory to 3000 MB. The checkbox unlimited means that this VM does not have any limits and it can use up to 4096 MB RAM.

Regards!

Reservation reserve resource for specific VMs.

Reservation - Guaranteed memory allocation for this virtual machine.

Limit - Upper limit for this virtual machine’s memory allocation.

Unlimited - No upper limit is specified

if you set unlimited for VM RAM, it will utilizes all assigned memory. e.g if you have assigned 4 GB, it will use all that.

or if you limit your VM to use only 3 GB then thought it will have 4 GB assigned in it will not cross 3 GB Limits.

There is no harm in setting unlimited for VMs unless your VMs are really need lot of CPU and RAM and there is resource crunch.

Thanks,

Haridas
