While it is an interesting issue you are facing, I want to take out the possibility of the incorrect password being provided. Can you confirm if you are able to login to the esxi server 5.1 via putty :smileyconfused:
Also, the VCVA 5.5 does have a feature to expire old passwords more than 90 days, but that would not impact here since you are trying to connect to the esxi server.

Hi,
Can you login locally to the server (iLO, DRAC, RSA or any other remote management, or just locally with keyboard) with your username and password? Did you set any password at all during install?

Hello,
I have unfortunately the same Problem.
None of our three Administrator can login anymore, although we hadn't change anything. It was possible till last week.
But we are able to login localy on the Server. Do you have any recommendation?
Thanks.

The only culprit I can think of is password expiry by VCVA:
VMware KB: vCenter Server Appliance 5.5 root account locked out after password expiration
On the other hand, are you facing these issues on the ESXi 5.1 servers after any recent patch?

If you can login from one subnet that means problem with network layer. Could you please provide us detailed layout of your network setup so we can advice?
Perhaps route is missing or something is set incorrect.
