Accessing ESx server
Hi
Ive used VM Workstation for years, but now find I've been given a ESx server v4 to manage. Its been powered down for a few months and the previous SO has now left the company and all I have is a password and IP. So server is now powered up and it claims I can download the management tools from its IP address http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx . So tried to access it and all I get is an IIS7 splash screen. I've tried downloading vSphere client, but all I get from that is a Unknown connection error.

If you are getting a IIS7 splash screen then it sounds like you are connecting to something else. If it has been switched off for a while could something else be using the IP address now? Do the IP address respond to a ping? If so, try switching the ESX host off and see if you are still getting a response from the IP address. If you are then something else is using the IP address.

Already ruled out the duplicate IP but thanks for the reply. Solved it. The management interface originally had a different ip address, we'd changed it so it would work on our network. Changed it back to the original ip address and I can now get in.
