Different Controller allowed??

Hi Guys,

In my current VSAN environment I currently have an existing controller of H730P and I''m planning to add H330 since i found it cheaper. Will there be any issues or is it allowed to have different controllers.. Do we have any documentations about this concern.

Thanks Guys.

First of all, make sure that the new controller is supported

Hello Chris,

While it is okay to have mixed controllers in a node, that particular controller is not supported for use with vSAN Disk-Groups. If you are planning on using it for VMFS/logging/boot that is fine but not for vSAN IO.

If you are looking for a cheaper option, you may want to check the HBA330. This HBA is preferred over RAID controllers as it is cheaper, and offers simplicity, at the same time providing vSAN total control of the devices without having to turn advanced features off (case in RAID controllers).
