I don't have the UDA, but maybe I can prove of some help.
To get the file, you could always just email it to yourself, and retrieve it from inside the UDA. The more direct thing to do would have been to move it into a folder that you share with the virtual machine, but since VMware tools isn't installed, you probably can't have a shared folder.
The syntax of the linux copy command, "cp", is "cp ".
To change the root password, login as root by typing "sudo su" (if you're not already root). Then type "passwd" to change your password.
