Using Exclusion Groups when Deploying Internal Apps

Has anyone used exclusion groups (smart group) to segregate app deployments to certain devices? Basically want to deploy an internal app to everyone accept the Sales department until we can vet the application. Has anyone done this with exclusion groups and any issues you have run into?

One way to do this would be to use an AD group to segregate the sales group in the assignment group under ' Excluded User Groups'  since you cannot exclude in an application like you can in a profile. Just a thought.

Thanks Elizabeth C - This got me into the right direction. I ended up using AD group to exclude users. Added the AD group as a exclusion in the smart group.
