Recover unenrolled devices

I work for a company and oversee a number of iPads. They're managed using Airwatch 18.10.0.11 (1810). Devices are added to the DEP then assigned to the MDM server.

I'm aware of a few cases whereby people have removed their iPads from the MDM using software such as 'iActivate'. The devices still feature in the MDM however lose contact with the server.

As the devices are in the DEP is there any way to recover these devices? Find their location etc.

Thanks,
Andrew

Once the MDM profile is removed, you've lost control of the device. It is in DEP so if it gets wiped for some reason it will come up with remote mgmt again.

Hi Andrew,
In the past we have used last access point the device hit. It does not give exact location, but if lucky it places you in the location.  We have retried a few devices this way.  In most ceases the device was wiped due to 30 day compliance policy, and they just stored it in some file cabinet.  Also, are the devices shared or corporate owned where users enrolled with their credentials?  In that case you already have the user's email address.  Other than that there is no real way that we know of. We have started documenting an owner for every mobile device.  Even shared devices are now assigned to a manager.  Not sure if that helps any.
