Disabling iMessage

I get that you can uncheck 'Allow iMessage' in device restrictions, but this seems to leave iMessage ON, but unusable. This ends up causing headaches for my users since people keep sending them iMessages. How does one go about disallowing AND disabling iMessage?

iMessages should disable within a few hours so it goes back to getting text messages being sent to the device and sending from goes to text immediately, is that what you observed as well?

We block it when supervising devices but you could also block the application from appearing on the springboard via Airwatch.  I do it with a custom profile that blocks any apps that I don't want available.
