Conflict with iOS 16.5 and Device Profiles

Hi all,

I just had a user bring to my attention that they were completely blocked from the internet. After a little digging, it appears that one of the device profiles I have setup and assigned is the culprit. Specifically it is the "Content Filter" section. I have it setup to block YouTube in our organization. However, after an iOS update (to 16.5), it blocks the whole internet! Devices with older iOS versions don't seem to be affected, and when I remove the profile the user regains access to the internet. Has anyone else experienced this yet?

We are experiencing the same issue.  Unfortunately we cannot modify the profile as you did.  Raising a ticket now.

VMWare's response to me was to reduce the payload in the offending profile. I didn't have a lot of other items, but I followed their instructions and limited the profile to having 1 payload of one blocked site. That seemed to work for us.

Do you employ the use of Wildcards in the format shown below?

with IOS 16 Apple does not support the use of the Asterisk to denote a wildcard in domains/url.

Here is the apple document on how the URL should be input.

https://support.apple.com/guide/deployment/web-content-filter-payload-settings-depc77c9609/1/web/1.0

I encountered this same issue and when removing the asterisk/ following the above documentation/format i was able to properly restrict and allow websites as before the devices were upgraded.

Hope this helps.
