Cancellation of service

We are moving from workspace one/Airwatch to intune and for the life of me no one seems to have the answer to a simple question. What happens to devices we are yet to remove from workspace one when the service is cancelled? Are they unenrolled or do they get locked down permanently to an account that doesn't exist?
