Azure AD & Workspace One

Hello there!

I would know in which case I should use Azure AD with Workspace One. Is it a pre requisite if :
-I have on prem Domain Controller

-I receive a new Windows laptop and I want to authenticate my user & enroll my laptop directly before being in the Windows Desktop ,all actions from home for example

Thanks for answering !

Integrating Azure AD into Workspace ONE UEM gives you either:

1. the ability to authenticate against Azure AD using SAML (no on-prem AD needed/wanted): https://wiki.eucse.com/books/workspace-one-uem/page/workspace-one-uem---azure-saml-integration

and/or

2. the ability to enroll Windows 10 Device using OOBE (before Desktop), Azure AD Join (after Desktop) or Office 365 (when using O365 Apps)

You can find the requirements and benefits for these three different use-cases here: https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Workspace-ONE-UEM/2008/Windows_Desktop_Device_Management/GUID-AWT-...

If you want to get the best user experience, you need to have an Azure AD P1 subscription for each user to leverage AutoPilot + MDM auto enrollment (-> https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/active-directory/) otherwise your users would need to initiate the WS1 enrollment after OOBE themselves.
