This is more of a heads up article than a request for help.
We have had several customer reports for our application that after upgrading VMware tools they began experiencing crashes when attempting to open our application.
This issue was investigated by our development and we have come to this determination:
Starting with VMware tools 9.10.5-29 (Which contains WDDM 8.15.1.32) and including 10.0.5 (WDDM 8.15.1.33) there is an issue with the x64 version of these drivers that when attempting to load ntdll.dll a crash results. This behavior is not reproducible when making an x86 call utilizing the same driver versions, nor is it reproducible in WDDM 8.15.1.6 and earlier with x64 calls. Going forward our work-around is to either back-date customers to a known good WDDM version or recommend they utilize another remote connection tool such as RDP.
