Queue throughput below zero

We have a metric that measures RabbitMQ queue throughput (http://tinyurl.com/jkmbm5x): queueresultsbqthroughput.

I didn't expect this metric to ever drop below zero. But it does. Any ideas why this might be?

Hi Owen,

It looks like this started happening on May 30th: http://tiny.cc/gfz7by

What do you guys use to retrieve metrics from RabbitMQ and send them to Wavefront, and do you have any intermediate aggregators/collectors sitting in-between, that may alter the values? On our side we treat all data point values we receive as pure numbers, without putting them in context or enforcing any constraints, leaving the interpretation of the value up to the end-user; which means we allow values that may not make any sense for this particular type of metrics - so, if we receive a negative value for "throughput", that's what ends up being displayed in the chart. Hope this makes sense - and please let us know what are you using to get these metrics, we'll do our best to help you get to the bottom of this!

The check that is generating the metric is generating values less than 0. We are adding a new metric that is more appropriate for our needs. Thanks Vasily.
