Oracle 10 G and ESX 3.5

Hi out there,

we run ESX 3.0.1 in production and (at the Moment) 3.5 for eval.

Next step for us, is the virtualization of our Oracle 10G Databases under RedHat Adv Server.

I heard about paravirtualization in ESX 3.5. How can i setup this in RedHat Adv Server?? Or can anyone point me to a Docu??

friendly regards from vienna

Well there is the whitepaper on Paravirtualisation, http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/VMware_paravirtualization.pdf but thats probably not what you are after.

According to the Guest OS guide, http://www.vmware.com/pdf/GuestOS_guide.pdf, only Ubuntu Linux 7.04 has Experimental support for paravirtualization under Workstation 6.0.1 and 6.0.2.

In terms of details from VMware there is http://www.vmware.com/interfaces/paravirtualization.html which has details of the technology preview.

Don't think you will be in luck running your Oracle on a paravirtualized version of RedHat. You might be bit to much of an early adopter in that regards.

Many thanks for the reply,

i thought there is a possibility to make a paravirtualized version of a RedHat Guest with oracle 10 G (i would test this for performance reasons).
