What kind of technology and limits can be used for a development server ?

Hello,

I would like to know what product and its limitations can be used for building a development server ?

Their will be 4 users, working with 4 different VMs. Each VM is for a different project, with a different Eclipse and softwares on it.

So I guess the server will be divided in 4 distincts environment (one for each user), and on it their will be each user VMs.

There is no constrains on the OS, server etc... The only thing is that we want to use the same SVN server on each VM in order to do concurrent development. Will their be network problems ? Should the VM have different names or different IPs is enough ?

the Beauty about vmware is that you could limit every parameter you wish

for network you could do vlans for cpu and memory you could set limits per machine

i would consider if i were you to have a resource pool for each project in case of potential growth

if you are cloning one server multiple times you should rename each copy

give different ip address, sysprep if you wish to join them to domain

and the rest you should check for each client

for instance we had mcafee antivirua on our servers and we discovered that in order to have a seperate guid we should delete a registry key on each clone

iis has users that has the original name of the server iis was first install on
