Vmware Converter vs Platespin Technology

I am currently having problems successfully converting existing servers from physical to virtual servers. I have been advised that theres a product out there called Platespin that does the same job only more successfully. Just wondering what the feedback is out there for Platespin vs Converter. What product within the Platespin suite should I be looking at? TNX.

Platespin Migrate does P2V, V2P, P2I, I2P, V2I, I2V. Very comprehensive, supports mixed hypervisor environment conversions. Around $365 cost for Standard Edition, and also can be used with free product Platespin Recon for migration planning. Converter does not offer nearly all the conversion options, but then again, you may not need them.<!Session data>

Hi,

I have used Platespin Migrate for several years with great success. It is a great tool for P2V - V2V - P2P or V2V it does it all.

Take a look at Migrate.

Both are execellent products and do the P2V function very well - now for the differences -

  • VMware Converter - the standatd can be downloaded for free - the enterprise version comes with Virtual Center - both integrate with your VI-3/vSphere environment -

  • Platespin - is a vended product so you have to buy and it does V2P which converter can not do -
