VCP Exam Material

G'day All,

I'm currently studying (my arse off) for my VI3 exam and was wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of some good pdfs on the VMware product comparisons and the ESX key components (ie. Virtualization and hardware layers etc.)

I am reading through all the other material suggested on here but find I need to polish up on a bit of the "fluff" as well as the technical side of the exam.

Cheers.

Hard to know. Thats not an easy question.

In terms of some comparison the http://www.vmware.com/pdf/virtualization_considerations.pdf document compares some of the architecture of VMware with that of competitors such as Xen. It goes through the key components like CPU virtualisation, memory management etc.

Its a start. Can you describe a little more of what you are looking for?

The material I am looking for is probably in the Install & Configure course materials I'm sure.

They outline it in the exam blueprint as Objective 1.1

I did the DSA course and am now finding that while I know and am learning alot of the technical side of VMware, answering some of the basics and fundamentals (ie. "fluff") I am finding a little difficult.

For example, I'm seeing sample questions that ask "What layer controls this or that?" I can't find anywhere that goes into detail discussing the layers of ESX?

And in terms of product comparisons, sure I know the basic difference between VMware server and ESX but is there a table that has them side by side and the features checked or unchecked?

It was so long ago I can't remember the course notes. I will have a quick squiz when I am at my desk tomorrow and see if I can shed any light.

Thanks for that.

I think I may have found a solution to part of my question in the Resource Management Guide - http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_301_201_resource_mgmt.pdf

I'll have a further read tomorrow, I've done enough for today! Just what I need more reading!
