New VMware install on 2003 host

heyup guys,

i have just installed VMware-VMvisor-Installer-4.0.0-171294.x86_64 and all went to plan.

the machine i am building it on has win2003 installed on a raid5 array

the VM install was on a second array i have added under a RAID1 config.

now........ i can't get the server to boot from the new vm build?!? in windows disk manager it labels the newly created Hypervisor0 drive as "active" .

im sure there is an obvious was to get this working....

thanks

J

the problem was a really poor raid bios..... confused to fcuk Smiley Sad thanks anyway

I'm not sure to understand...

You are tring to install ESXi on a Windows 2003?

ESX and ESXi are bare metal hypervisor and does not require a host OS.

Remove your Windows 2003 and change disk boot order on your RAID card.

As Andre pointed out ESX and ESXi are bare metal hyervisors and are their own operating systems - they do not need any underlying operating system like windows or linux

Hi,

as the guys told you before, ESX is based on baremetal.

In you case if you want to install an product an you windows host (host based virtualization) you can use VM Workstation, or VMware Server.
