Today my company is running ESX3 with AMD dual-core. But we are planning to set up a test-site. For that site we are thinking about using Intel Xeon Quad core. Do anyone know if that is a problem? The plan is to first install new servers in the test-site. And when testing is done, move it over to production. But production is run by AMD. It should work, shouldn't it?
In this post : http://communities.vmware.com/message/351577#351577 they seems to say that it should be ok as long as you're not using vMotion.
If any of you virtual machines are Linux you may have a kernel issue moving them from Intel to AMD.
Our first farm was single core Intel, the next was dual core AMD, and our third is going to be quad core Intel. Like others have said, VMotion is not going to work, but cold migrations should work.
