Hi,
I have 2 ESX Hosts connected to 2 SAN Storage area. I have a file server on one of the 2 host, using Raw Device Mapping in the Storage Area.
Now i would like to replicate this file server into the 2nd storage area which is located into another room.
How can i do this task costless ... ?
My storage area are EMC² CX200 and EMC² AX4-5
ESX1 is connected to CX200 and ESX2 is connected to AX4-5
I have some script that export and import VMs form ESX1 to ESX2 and vice versa.
Each host is running some VMs that are cloned and "paused" into the other host.
There is no clustering option (ESX standard licences)
Thanks
Hello,
If your SANs contain LUN copy capability this is the best option. Otherwise your other option is to use software replication. Veeam Backup contains this by default. vReplicate is from VizionCore. Another option is to backup using VCB and restore using VMware Converter. Or use VMware Converter to do everything. To replicate the RDM you can use it in virtual mode or do a file by file copy.
TO keep them in sync you may have to use something within the VM ala DoubleTake if you want continuous replication, else repeat the above whenever you backup.

I would recommend Veeam Backup 2.0 and choose replication. It is definitely easier and cheaper than enabling the copy option on the SAN.
Thank you, i'll try Veeam Backup
