Welcome to the VMware Communities forums.  I've moved your post to the Virtualizaiton Technology forum.  Are you connecting directly to an ESX(i) host or via vCenter.  vCenter (4.1) has a connection limit of 100 sessions.  Practically you wouldn't want to approach that.  Directly to a host you'll want to run far fewer sessions.  Is there a specific reason for your enquiry?  If you're providing access to VMs to "end users" it's better to provide access through a guest access method such as RDP or VNC rather than pushing that through vCenter.  Console access also requires a direct connection to the ESX(i) host which isn't necessarily the best in all situations.

For a single host seems 40.

To vCenter Server 100.
