H/W choice

In order to develop and testing software for different OS configuration, usually I use 3/4 VM at times.

I must change my HW.

I'm oriented to an economic Opteron / Xeon server instead of a Core 2 Quad PC.

Which cpu is better for virtualization ? There are specific benchmark results on the Net ?

Reccomended H/W configurations ?

Thank you.

Maurizio

Hello,

Any hardware on the HCL is suggested. IMHO, the best bang for your buck is either the HP DL38x family or the Dell 2950/R900. Dual Quad Core processors whether AMD or Intel work great for this type of application. These particular servers can also have huge amounts of local disk and plenty of slots for pNIC or FC-HBA cards.

My Intel Quad Cores are working JUST fine. Nice and speedy, but the new AMD Phenom chips are also very good. Some say Intel are better others AMD. But for hardware find something that is on the HCL and you will have less issues.
