ESX 3.0.1 Storage Limit

Is there a limit to the size of the LUN attached to an ESX 3.0.1 host?

I just connected to a 2.4TB LUN and have rescanned multiple times and it shows the path and LUN ID, but the capacity is 0.0B.

Thanks,

Scott

2TB is the limit. (http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_35/esx_3/r35/vi3_35_25_config_max.pdf)

It's 2 TB - . The same applies to a VMDK file and to a RDM. You can create volumes up to 64 TB using extents (32 * 2 TB LUNs) but you should generally avoid using extents.

Thanks to both of you. I was hoping that was the case.

We will be configuring a Raw Lun for a VMguest. Does this limit pertain to Raw devices as well? We expect to configure at least a 3TB lun

Yes, the maximum for an RDM is 2 TB.

So after internal discussion we determined that on our guest which will be Windows 2003, we will configure qty=3 1TB raw luns and use dynamic disk to concatinate them.

Thanks for your response

It's up to you but spanning disk isn't my preferred method. What are you gonna use the VM for?

The VM will run an Onbase retrival application for static data. (archived data)
