Drivers and how VM works.

This may be a stupid question but....

If I have a usb device that has xp32 bit support only can I use it in a xp32 bit guest OS running under xp64 bit host, or does the 64bit host have to have a 64bit driver for this device?

You should be Ok with this. I am able to do this on XP 32-bit - i.e. I can connect a USB device to the VM without having drivers installed in the host OS. Once you boot up the VM you should have the option to connect the USB drive VM \ Removable Devices \ USB Devices.

There is no 64-bit host. ESX is 32-bit. Smiley Happy

But usually 32-bit devices/programs can run in a 64-bit guest no problem.

OK Thanks.

I thought the host referred to the host OS.

I thought the host referred to the host OS.

It does...ESX doesn't have one...what VMware product are you using?
