Comarison Between VMware Version

Hi All,

I'm condidering purchasing ESX and have the following questions:

What is the max memory supported for host on VMware server?

What is the max memory supported for host on ESX starter Edition?

What is the max memory supported for host on ESX standard Edition?

Did the ESX starter and standard editions support "multiple snapshots"?

Currently I have VMware server (the host installed on Linux 64 with 8GB RAM) and run 4 Windows Guests, I tried to add more guest and the network performance degraded dramatically. assuming that I will move to ESX and use the same HW for the hosts and guests with the same requirements, how much more guests I will be able to add?

What is the ratio between ESX and VMware server?

Thanks,

Nir

Hi Nir,

What is the max memory supported for host on VMware

server?

The max memory supported with vmware server = the max memory supported by the Linux OS

What is the max memory supported for host on ESX

starter Edition?

The max memory supported with Starter Edition = 8 GB

What is the max memory supported for host on ESX

standard Edition?

The max. memory supported with standard edition = 64 GB

Did the ESX starter and standard editions support

"multiple snapshots"?

Yes, starter and standard do support multiple snapshots

Currently I have VMware server (the host installed on

Linux 64 with 8GB RAM) and run 4 Windows Guests, I

tried to add more guest and the network performance

degraded dramatically. assuming that I will move to

ESX and use the same HW for the hosts and guests with

the same requirements, how much more guests I will be

able to add?

Depends what kind of hardware you are running on:

\- first is de server on the ESX hardware compatible list ?

\- Are you using localstorage/iSCSI/ FC SAN?

\- How many NICs? and what kind of traffic is your environment goin to produce?

What is the ratio between ESX and VMware server?

the ratio is 4 to 8 VM per core ESX / 2 to 4 VMs per core VMware Server ( indication)

greetz,

Albert
