I haven't looked into any VMware certifications... what's out there? Anyone have good links regarding the certs? Is there only a VCP? How many tests do you have to take and how much? What are the best study materials(other than real world playing/experience).
I beliece VCP is the only current VMware certification. You need to take the Virtual Infrastructure 3 class and then pass the certification exam.
Here is the main link on VCP
http://mylearn1.vmware.com/portals/certification/
They are two classes you can take to prepare for you VCP certification is the VI3.5 Install & Configure and VI 3.5 Deploy, Analyze and Secure which is more advance and beneficial. Once you complete neither one of this than you'll meet the prerequisite for the VCP exam. You can neither attend the course via online or on-site instructor lead training. I prefer onsite if you don't know much and wants to work on live lab and interface directly with instructor and peers. If you've already familiar and worked with ESX, than online is fine for just who need to be VCP and required to take the class. Once you became VCP, than you can have VMware Sales Professional, VMware Technical Sales Professional, VMware Capacity Planner and other specific accredition you can pursue for further details.
"The Power of Knowledge"
I believe VMware has already indicated they will have a higher level certification, although I don't think actual go live date has been provided. VCP is most likely going to be a prereq for new more advanced certs, so I guess its a good place to start.
What new certifications can I expect from VMware?
We
are planning to launch a high level certification in early 2008. This
certification will be aimmed at candidates with a technical architect
level of knowledge in our products. This will be a multi teired
certification and will require the VCP on VI3 certification. Also in
the works is a new lower level certification, one below the current VCP
certification. This is still in the planning stages, so more
information will follow.
