virtualize sql server

Does anyone know of reference designs or sql installs with performance data and load on servers. I am looking at virtualizing a sql server and want to see if it is feasible and what type of configuration to use on the vm. I am anticipating 300 concurrent sql connections based on our existing two sql servers that are being combined into this one. With an average of 300 transactions per seconds but a peek of 3000 tps per second. Does that sound like it is virtualizable?

Thanks. I have see a lot of the best practices and recommendations but nothing on what people are running and the results they are seeing. Is anyone running large databse servers on vsphere?

I have already looked at most of the best practices, I wanted to find what types of databases people have virtualzied with load numbers (i.e transactions per seconds, concurrent users, etc), what their performance have been and what the vm configuration (memory, cpu) was used.
