vSphere template deployment with windows 2008 R2

Hi guys,.

I am going a bit round in circles at the moment.

I am going to be deploying windows 2008 R264-bitStandard. I have bought the relevant MAK VL's and am not going to use KMS.

So the questions i have are:

When creating a template should i activate the template then deploy?.

As far as i am aware this would cause the activation process to kick in.

Should i deploy then activate?

Just wondering if anyone has managed to create a customisation script to prevent the reactivation, or automate it?

Thanks

Dougie

we do activation at the end for each VM created from the template. keeps it simple at the moment.

We manage that by installing a version without any serialnummer. Create a template and with this template i create my machines.

After that, we activate our license because at the moment we do not use a kms server.

Hi Frank,

Thanks for the reply.

I am in the same boat. I dont have the time to spend to try and automate the template activation so i will jsut be using VAMT after to activate the servers that are deployed.

If i get time later i will try have a further look.

Thanks
