unabale to access my second VMDK (shared one with 2 VM)

Hi All,

I am running 2 VM (with Windows2003 std guest OS) on esx 3.5 and need to share second VMDK disk on both the VM for project need.

but failed restart the both the VM's simaltanously and getteing an error unabale to access file since it is locked.

Is there any other way to map second VMDK disk to 2 VMS..?

Note: Second VMDK disk on shared storage only (SAN)

No that is not possible since the VMs lock their VMDKs exclusivly. Why don't you share the driver over the network from your OS within the VM?

Thanks for the reply,

My scenorio I am running 2 diffrent high critical application on 2 VM's with clustering mode if one server fails another will take care .

more impotant our customer need to access that shared drive (its all the impotant doc for user access) all the time.

I cant keep my data on the shared storage hence more than 7,000 users used access that share drive all the time. then think about disk I/O.

Hello,

Moved to VIrtual Machine and Guest OS forum.

Please check out http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_35/esx_3/vi3_35_25_u1_mscs.pdf for the correct way to setup MSCS. If the filesystem on the VM is not a clustered filesystem then you will have all sorts of issues. Pay close attention to the examples as they have necessary steps within it.
