something very strange in V Center Client 2.

Hello All,

I use ESX 3, with Vcenter

2 , and I got something very strange, which is:

Under Virtual Machines

window on the V center Client, I noticed that some of the Vmachines are using a

lot of resources while they are powered off, for example: one of the machines

is using (Host CPU- MHz 1240, Host Mem 1050, and Guest Mem – 92%).

So please advise me if you have come across this issue before.

Many thanks.

Regards

SSH into the host and do a esxtop and see if that server is showing up in the list. I think that the client is giving you a false reading.

Thanks for your replaying JayGrassi, but it would be much appriated if you could explain it in more details since am quite new to VM ESX and V Center.

(do you mean i need to log on to all powered off vmachines and do a test on them, so i can make sure if its fales or true?)

please advise.

Kind Regards,

Sorry. No, what you need to do is to log into the esx server that the virtual machine in question is on.

from the prompt type in "esxtop" (no quotes), this will open a type of task manager. On the left side all the RUNNING virtual machines will be listed along with the process ID and some other information like % used being the % of the HOST's (ESX servers) processor being used. Look through the list and see if the virtual machine in question is listed. If it is let me know, and we can use some commands to check the status.
