setup VM guest to use physical modem on VM host...plus HA

Hi all,

Has anyone installed a physical modem on a virtual machine? (by creating a virtual serial port inside the VM and specifying it to use the physical serial port)...(also, it's a XP SP2 VM guest)

If so, great.... but have you ever setup redundancy\HA with modem? By this, I mean that if ESX Host 1 dies, it vmotions its guests over to another ESX host that also has a modem attached ....Hw can I setup this so that the guest with the attached modem one ESX host 1, will inherit the modem attached to ESX host 2? Is it all based on the position that I plug the modem into the physical servers (if both servers are identical)?

We are considering this in part of our DR strategy for this basic/boring but highly required application.
