openSuSE installation failed (can't create initrd)

Hi!

I've tried to install a plain openSuSE 11.0 (x86) on an ESX 3.5U2 but failed whyle creating the initrd. A manual installation of grub also fails. (hd0,1) which is /boot isn't recognized as valid partition.- But Knoppix can see and access this partition, where the grub config is located.

VM: 1GB RAM, 1 disk 20 GB

Any hints?

Greetings,

subo

btw. I've also tried a fedora core 9 and failed with nearly the same error.

Which Hard Dirve Controller are you using for the VM ? LSI Logic or BUS Logic ?

Have you just tried to change the Controller type ?

Can you boot from an OpenSuSE Live CD and look if it works ? If works you'll could be able to create a ramdisk and use it for the Virtual Machine.

let me know
