mount the disk images of a guest virtual machine to read/write its contents

I am tring ro mount the disk images of a virtual machine on VMware Hypervisor machine. I downloaded and installed VMware-server (http://www.vmware.com/download/server/) to get vmware-mount command able to runand tried as explained in http://www.vmware.com/pdf/VMwareDiskMount.pdf . But command vmware-mount -p disk_image_location is not running properly and resulting into this error,

fuse: device not found, try 'modprobe fuse' first

Fuse daemon exited with error.

Failed to mount disk: The VMware fuse daemon failed to start.

Plz help what to do.

Thanks

which platform are you using ?

VMware Hypervisor machine can be anything ...

In case you are talking about ESX - have a look at the VDDK = virtual disk development kit - that can be used to mount remote vmdks

I am using ESX, but the vmdk images are on the same machine not remote, I am facing the same error even after installing fuse.

Try using disk mount from VDDK rather than what comes with WS..

There is nice gui that you can use it with

Please mark if you find it useful

OP uses Linux - so Rob's GUI will not help.
