when i install vmware-tools, in the first step, it prompt me not enough space. so i use ctrl+Z plus kill -9 to terminate the installation process. after clean up, i re-install vmware-tools, but it always promt me previous installation exists, and uninstall failed. how to clean up previous installation?
What is your linux distribution? Did you use an rpm or tarball?

OK I don't have one of these running but perhaps one of these ideas will help:
1.) check for the existence of /usr/bin/vmware-uninstall-tools.pl
2.) if it is there, run it manually
3.) if it is not there, take a snapshot and..
4.) find / -name "vmware" (my rhel box gives me back /usr/lib/vmware-tools)
5.) delete the directory where you see it and try the installer again.
6.) If that works commit your snapshot, if not, revert.
Let me know if that helps.

i modify your step 4 as below,
find / -name vmware-tool\*
my search result is /etc/vnware-rools.
after clean up, i can re-install vmware-tools now.
