g's filling up text box on guest install

I am installing Windows guests on an Ubuntu 9.04 workstation 64bit. I am using VMware Server 2.0. When I get to the install where windows is asking me questions, the text box will fill up with g's as if someone is holding down the g key. I can delete the g's however they will again fill up the text box. I had the problem with Windows Server 2008 install however I somehow got around it. I need to have a Windows XP guest but I am stuck. If I click past the "Windows XP Professional Setup" with the g's, I will come to the screen to enter my product key - again every text box will fill up with g's.

Thanks in advance
