The problem with using an imaging tool not specifically designed for V2P (or P2V, for that matter) conversions is that the machine won't boot after that because the disk device driver will be wrong for the new hardware.
Tools such as VMware Converter "inject" the correct driver into the OS after the imaging process. However, VMware Converter only does P2V and V2V migrations, not V2P.
You will thus need to use a tool such as Platespin's PowerConvert to do this. I believe the Acronis product might also provide the facility to replace the disk driver.
