datastore free space does not change after directory deletion

When I delete a directory with an 8G vmdk file from the datastore browser in virtual infrastructure center there is no change in the amount of free space available in the datastore. I right click the directory in the datastore browser and chose "delete from disk". Even after I refresh, the free space stays the same. Is there something I need to do to reclainm the space? Is there some sort "recycle bin" type of setup on the ESX server?

The free space in that view doesn't update instantly - I've seen it take up to an hour.

What kind of Datastore? FC? NFS? NFS mounts are kinda goofy like that.

To see it updated immediately try running "service mgmt-vmware restart" after disabling HA on that host.

Hi,

It's just GUI not getting refreshed. Go to Datastore View and refresh the datastore in which the free space was showing wrong.

Hope this helps Smiley Happy
