best practices

Newbie to VI3....

What would be the best practices on creating a template for deployment? The template would be to create a Microsoft Windows 2003 Stantard and Enterprise R2 server for deploying vm's. I am using VI3 3.0.1 and VC 2.0.1 any info would be helpful thanks.

The main best practice I'd suggest is always create templates with a single virtual machine and initially assign as little memory as you can get away with.

It's so easy to add memory later, but you'll find it harder to remove it.

Do I use virtual center server console or VI3 Client to create the templates?

With Virtual Center create and prepare your VM, when ready right click and convert or clone to a Template. It will then dissapear from view.

Click on arrow in the Inventory Botton and select "Virtaul Machines and Templates"..

You now see all your VM's and the Template.. Right Click the Template and Deploy..
