Xp shows only 3 GB of RAM with allocated memory of 4 GB

Hi all,

I have XP system with 4 GB RAM assigned to it running on ESXi4 but it shows only 3GB inside the OS.

Is that 3GB is the max memory that can be allocated for XP 32 bit or anyother way to get 4 GB for 32 bit XP VM?

Hi,

I think this is an OS limitation. If you would use XP x64 it will "see" 4GB of RAM.

assigning 4 Gb RAM to a XP 32 VM makes no sense - it will not detect more then 3.2 Gb or something like that.

You are running into a limit of the OS. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605
