Windows 7 Physical Disk VM

Hi, I am trying to set up a dual boot system (Win7 & Ubuntu) and use VM Workstation 7 on Ubuntu to load the physical Windows 7 partitition as a VM. Both are 64bit.

I have created a VM and set the disk to using the whole physical disk (/dev/sda), leaving the rest of the settings at default. When I try and boot it i get a STOP 0x0000007B bluescreen.

I am using the lsilogic option in Workstation and have attempted to load the vmscsi.inf driver from the floppy image here : http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&externalId=1005208, but it won't load in Windows 7 ("The inf file does not support this method of installation")

Does anyone have any ideas of other things I could try to get this working?

Thanks in advance

your plan will not work and you do not even need to use that driver-floppy !!!

use LSI-SAS and patch with a Windows 7 recovery 64 bit CD

you only need  to edit a single registry key - really easy

see my notes http://sanbarrow.com/p2v2008r2.html

you only need to read the "patching - easy variant" part - my notes apply to 2008 R2 and Windows 7
