Wake On LAN for VMs

Wake On LAN for VMs

We are monitoring mains load to UPS and based on load we are trying to shutdown Windows Server 2019 based VM. Once shutdown and before host machine dies if power is back, then we want to remotely Wake on LAN VMs using magic packet.

We have made settings to enable Wake On LAN on the physical port of the Host machines. Also enabled 'Put the guest OS into standby mode and leave the virtual machine powered on' and enabled Network Adapter 1 for Wake on LAN settings.

We tried sending magic packet, it works on host machine but it does not work on VM if we want to start any particular VM on WoL.

We are using ESXi 7.0 U2.

Anyone could help in this matter, much appreciated in advance!!!

Comments

I'm currently struggling with the same problem.

I would use WOL because vm-host autostart-settings won't work if vms are migrated to another host.

thanks in advance.
